What: A tiki bar and restaurant inspired by tropical cuisines north of the 20th parallel. Bar director Sarah Troxell draws inspiration from tiki classics, while also looking beyond the tropical canon to include low-ABV options and less-conventional spirits. The Vamos A La Playa combines Del Maguey Vida mezcal, Uruapan Charanda blended rum, pineapple shrub and lime juice and went down entirely too easily on a warm summer evening. The Seaward will grab your attention from across the restaurant. Sips include the Jamaica Me Crazy with lime-flavored vodka, hibiscus, cherry, lime, and sparkling mineral water and the Low Tide with oloroso sherry, Jamaican rum, pecan orgeat, orange curacao, lime and bitters.
My own third space has been the open-air brewery four blocks from my home. Alcohol is a tricky bag to discharge for me, and for others that I know and adoration. Some people will be abstemious their whole lives or the rest of their livesand a few may dabble in sobriety all over various seasons. I know I am trying to after this hellscape of a year. At once, especially, is a difficult flash.
